There is never a clear answer to these questions, you always get the run around when you first start. I’ve been doing article marketing for over a year now and I just got the jist of it. Haha…So here is what I learned, experienced and maybe it would be useful to you too…
First sign up with http://wwwcompete.com. Its free and its a site that reads website traffic of visitors per/month.
Research article directories and see which directory site gets the most visitors per month. From my research, I believe that ezinearticles, hubpages, squidoo, buzzle are among the most visited sites for article content.
After deciding on which directories you wanrt to contribute to, go to the sites and sign up for an account, usually free.
Write an article and place the article on the right cateogy, depending on the niche readers you are targeting. Make sure to include keywords in the body and title of the article, so that search engines picks up your article when it is being searched. Without the links and keywords, your article is useless in creating traffic to your company, website etc.
After its posted on one site, change the article a little bit. Rephrase, change words around and even go far as to format the article structure a little differently. The main point is to make sure the article looks different from the original, but still contains the same information. You cannot post the same article to different directories. You will eventually get balcklisted from both the directory and the serach engines and your articles will not be picked up by readers.
